Yes, it’s true: production is scheduled to begin this year on four truck models from China-based Great Wall Motors, including this pickup with the best-ever name: Steed.
The Bahovitsa plant represents China’s first attempt to produce cars in Europe, and they’re priced to sell: just 16,000 Euros for an SUV. It will also produce around 1,200 jobs according to the New York Times, providing a much-needed shot in the arm for the Bulgarian economy.
Great Wall appears to have been around for awhile – they arrived in Australia in 2009, to mixed reviews. Has anyone out there driven one? We’d love to hear your thoughts on it, as well as the potential for this venture to open the door for similar manufacturing investments in Bulgaria.
